Welcome to this week's newsletter! And what a lovely surprise this very late Indian Summer is - lets make the most of it and get outside this weekend - to walk, to have a glass of wine in the autumn sunshine (we are doing an extra special on wines this week!), or if you believe the weather forecast for Sunday, you could even brave having the last Barbeque of the year (yeah, go on, go for it!).
With the weather in mind, what have we got for you this weekend?
Stallholder news
All stallholders are due to be with us on Saturday (except for the Finnegan Farm people, whose seasonal produce has finished). If you expect to be suffering from a hangover on Sat (maybe after the soccer match on Friday evening), and BBQ seems like too much effort, then the Curry Sauce company have just the trick to sort you out, with a nice warming curry - added to some lamb from Jim Ryan or if you prefer fish, maybe a chunk of monkfish (you need a firm-fleshed fish to cook with a curry sauce). Very apt food for our Indian summer!

Jim Ryan will also have a special on burgers this weekend - just right for that barbeque, at 8 burgers for €5.
The Spud Man expects to have plums and figs again this Saturday - check the website for an update in case he cant get them at the Fruit Market in the morning. As he is still recovering from his recent accident, he is planning on a self-service market stall on Sat - particularly for his spuds (well actually, I am insisting on it!).

At Ann-Maries 'A little Taste of Heaven', she will have Chelsea Buns, lemon meringue pie and Bread and Butter Pudding as well as apple pies, apple and blackberry crumbles, selection of tray bakes, cupcakes...and many more.. to round off your dessert, why not add some Burke's Farm vanilla ice-cream (her cows have done their bit to make the ice-cream extra special) and you're done and dusted.

On the wine front, Colm is going for special offers on three wines this weekend.

To celebrate the Indian summer, and for the rose lovers out there, we are putting on our Masciarelli Rosato IGT, a lovely fresh Italian rose wine with tastes of redcurrant, cherry and rose petal. It normally sells for €13.50, it is on special offer on Saturday for €11.50. Our white wine of the week is a French wine - Rive Haut from the Cotes de Gasgogne, a lively aromatic blend of Sauvignon and Colombard. Normally priced at a tenner, it is on sale on Saturday for an amazing €8.50. Finally, our red wine of the week is also from South West France, from St Mont, which is 70% Tannat grape, and is a full-bodied, earthy wine - which won a Gold Medal at the Paris Wine Fair in 2010. Usually priced at 12.50, it is on offer on Saturday for €10.
At the cafe, we are holding off again this week from preparing soup - with the warm weather that is predicted, we dont think that people will be in the humour to eat soup! For the hot meal of the day, we'll be doing Spanish Chicken (flavoured with chorizo and white wine), and we'll also be serving a new option on the toasties with some freshly roasted turkey breast, flavoured with garlic and sage. And a fresh crab mayonnaise open sandwich on brown bread (traditional soda or spelt bread).

The Pantry has taken in a fresh delivery of cheese from Cooleeney and Des Crinion, and the large Cooleeney Brie-style cheese is now available again. We are also trying out a new Granola, which we are making in the kitchen here, so that'll be on tasting on Saturday, served with yogurt and a drizzle of Percy's runny honey. We also have some relishes on tasting from Puddleduck, made by an artisan producer called Clare, who is interested in selling her produce at the market. Let us know what you think of her produce! And, unless there is a last minute hitch, plans are to make some of the cucumber pickle tomorrow afternoon, so that should be available on Saturday!
Sorry for the shortage of recipes in the last couple of weeks - we are experimenting with a few new ones at the moment, and it takes time to perfect the recipe so that you can replicate them without any problems - so watch this space!
Hope to see you on Saturday!
Brid & Colm
PS sorry for the non-appearance of the goats milk last weekend - not making any promises for this Sat, will update the website if we get word on it!
