Market newsletter 28th October 2010

Is it me or is this Halloween going on for ever - and it hasnt even happened yet? We've had the long weekend, we've had the City Marathon and the actual night of Halloween isnt until Sunday night?? I'm so tired of pumpkin photos that I've gone with another Autumn classic image for this week - the mushroom!

Our 'Bring a Friend' campaign kicks off this weekend and will run until the 11th of December. When you bring a friend to the market for the first time you will both be entered into our Christmas Hamper draw, which will be picked at our Christmas Food & Crafts Fair on the 11th of December - put that date in the diary. And of course, if you bring new friends every week, you can be entered into the draw each time!

Talking of our Christmas Food and Crafts Fair, we still have room for a couple more craft/art stalls, so if you or anyone you know is a local artisan craftsperson, then get in touch to join the Fair! We are planning a day of foodie and craft inspiration for those Christmas presents - things that will be interesting, made with love and care and above all - USEFUL!! As we firm up on the plans, we will let you know more details...

Stallholder news for this week:

We have a new stallholder starting with us this Saturday - Clare with her Puddleduck range of jams and relishes, so make sure you call to her stall and have a taste!

At the Pantry:

Dominic Gryson is due to do a tasting of his goat's milk and goats cheese which is stocked at The Pantry. Very delicate flavours - unless you've tasted them at the market in the last couple of weeks, you'll be surprised about the tastes!

We have also restocked on the 'Taste a Memory' Pies, as they all sold out last weekend (which meant that I had no emergency dinners for late in the week!); they taste great and are priced at €5.50 per pack, so excellent value as well.

At the Wine Stall: Colm has had a Spanish week of it with our supplier Dominio de la Vega paying us a visit. So, we've decided to put two of the latest wines from them on as our Wine Specials this week.

The white is an interesting blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Macabeo, which has been oak-aged for a short period, giving a rounded complex tropical fruit flavours. This wine is usually priced at €15.50, and is on special offer this week-end at €13.20.

Our red wine of the week is made mainly from the Bobal grape variety, with tastes of red fruit, vanilla and smoky flavours. Usually priced at €13, this is on special offer at €11. Come along and taste these wines on Saturday!

Pascale at Phoenix Delites will have her new range of chocolates available, as they are due to be delivered to her on Friday...

Ann-Marie from A Taste of Heaven wont be at the market this weekend.

News from Gannet Fishmongers: 'Trawling on the west coast has resumed again, with subtantials landings and price are returning to normal.  Expect a special on brill and  turbot this week end priced @ €12-50 for large fish. More at auction tomorow so we will see if we cant find xtra bits'

At the cafe, we will have the usual fare, with extra of the Tunisian Orange Cake (we are making it with gluten-free flour again, so a lovely treat for people who are wheat/gluten  intolerant). Our soup of the day is Celeriac & Garlic, we will have some of the leek and gruyere quiche and our hot dish of the day will be Thai Chicken.
