Market Newsletter 16th September 2010

Welcome to this week's newsletter, we hope you enjoy reading it. It feels like we've had an Autumn bypass this week and that we have gone straight to winter, but maybe by Saturday the cool spell will have eased! (Please note that we wont have a newsletter next week, as we are away in Italy for a week - but of course the market will be running as usual... )
News and Events

Congrats to the Phizzfest people - didnt get to much of it myself, but there was a lovely buzz around Phibsboro during the weekend, and there was great feedback from people who did get to attend some of the many events throughout the weekend.

Wine Tasting at the market: We still have places available for our wine tasting event, which takes place this Saturday at the Honest2Goodness Market. Spend an hour or two tasting wines and cheeses and learning about what combinations work and don't work. Tickets cost just €15 and you get €10 off any wine purchases made (min. buy 3 bottles).
The Tasting will kick off at 4.30PM and tickets can be booked by emailing colm@honest2goodness.ie.
The wines of the week this week are from two classic French regions - Burgundy and Bordeaux. For our white wine, we have our Pouilly Vinzelles Les Quarts, from Burgundy which has ripe fruit flavours of peach and melon, which normally sells for €17, and is on offer for €14.45. Our red Bordeaux is our Ch le Sable 2007, with tastes of plum, cherry, tobacco leaf and leather. Again, this normally retails at €17, and again is on offer at €14.45.
Have you a Food Hero or favourite food product? If so, we want to hear about it for our Food Heroes Competition. Send us your nominations by clicking here. Nomination forms also available at the market. And put the 16th of October in your diary as our Food Hero Celebration Day, when we will announce the top 5 in our competition, as voted by our customers and friends of the market.
Stallholder news
Jim Ryan will have beech-wood smoked rashers this weekend, dry cured.
Pascale of Phoenix Delites is sorry but she is sold out of both her Ugandan 80% chocolate and her Lemon & Black Pepper, as they have proven to be so popular. She hopes to have them back in stock soon.

Pamela from Blazing Salads has sent us a few seasonal recipes, which you can find here. She has used a theme of beetroot and has given us both savoury and sweet recipes, all of which look really great. Her chocolate and beetroot cake recipe is here
Pantry: Fresh supplies of Govender Curry sauce due for Saturday, as we sold out last weekend. Same goes for the sweet chilli and fresh mayonnaise from Bia Blasta. Apologies, but it looks like I wont get to make the cucumber pickle for this weekend. One reason is that as we are away in Italy for a week from next Wed, time is in really short supply and the other reason is that by the time I got to buy cucumbers from Dublin Meath Growers last Saturday - they were all gone (and I hate using anything but produce from the market!)

Cafe - we'll be experimenting with new scone flavours again this weekend, so check out the expanding range! As the weather is sooo cold right now, thoughts are turning to soup again, so will have some tomato and bean soup available on Saturday, alongside the Hot Dish of the week which is our deconstructed spicy Shepherds Pie (which always disappears really quickly!). As the Blueberry, banana and walnut bread was really popular last weekend, we are baking more of it for the cafe - €1 per slice!
