Market Newsletter 11th November 2010
Welcome to this week's newsletter, and we hope that you have a nice fire to sit by as you have your meal this evening, after such a lousy day's weather!

Events news:
Places still available for our Christmas Wine Tasting evening on the 4th of December, taking place at the Market Cafe area.

We also have tickets on sale at the Spud Man Stall for Handel's Messiah, taking place on Wed/Thurs 1st & 2nd December 2010 in St Patricks Cathedral at 8pm, with tickets costing €30. The proceeds are in aid of the One Family Charity (who will be the Bookstall Charity in December).
Market news:
Come along this Saturday to see Phase 1 of the revamped Upper Market (sounds posh doesnt it!) - lots of changes afoot! Check out the new locations of a number of stalls...
Stallholder news:
You will be able to buy flowers at the market from this Saturday, as we'll have a Flower Stall, being run by Andrew Kelly, located just inside the Upper Market door. So, no excuses not to brighten up your own or someone elses day with a nice bunch of fresh flowers... Andrew will also do floral wreaths and will make bouquets to order.
Honest2Goodness Pantry/Wine Stall: we have made the move to the Upper Market, so that we can do the new heating in the cafe area, and have the produce more accessible to market shoppers. We will be adding to the produce available over the coming weeks - feel free to browse and ask us any questions about some of the more unusual produce! To celebrate the move, we have some of our favourite wines on special this weekend:

Wines of the week: Both our wines are French, and from the Bordeaux region. A lot of people associate Bordeaux with expensive wines, but there are also lots of great bargains to be found - and we believe that these are two of them!
The white is our Chateau Lieumenant, Bordeaux AC 2009 wine, with lots of lemon, green apple and tropical fruit flavours. Ideal with shellfish or delicate seafood (maybe some of Cailean's crabmeat or crab claws?). This wine is usually priced at €10, and is on offer this Sat at €8.50
Our red of the week is our Chateau Chene de Margot, a 1er Cote de Blaye 2007. This is a medium to full-bodied red wine with flavours of smoky oak, tobacco leaf, plum and dark black fruit. Normally priced at 12.50, we have it available on Saturday for €10.

Cafe news: Please excuse our appearance as we complete our revamp of the cafe area over the next few weeks, but it'll be all the better when we are done! In the meantime, our hot soup of the day will be Cauliflower and Cheese, and our Hot Dish of the Day is a hearty Spicy Beef Casserole. As the Carrot Cake went down so well last weekend, we are planning to have more of that available alongside our usual other 'treats', which will also be on sale at the Pantry.
At the Spud Man's Stall, he has restocked the Living Herbs, which sold out last week.
Our recipe of the week is a Leek Ratatouille - a really tasty way to cook this vegetable. All ingredients are available at the market.
