Market newsletter 24th May 2012

Finally, finally, Summer has arrived! The forecast is pretty good through til mid week, so hopefully we will all get the chance to get out and about in it! We have dusted down the outdoor furniture and we have plenty of ice-cream in the freezer as well as lots more goodies to make the most of the weather!



Very exciting news for our Wednesday market! On the 20th of June, RTE will be filming part of their new Cookery Series - Surf & Turf - here at the market, featuring Paul Flynn from the Tannery in Dungarvan. He will be buying market produce to cook later (we of course would love him to cook it here, but thats unlikely!). Anyway, we hope that everyone will turn out on the day to showcase what we are about. Dont worry, I will keep reminding you all about it each week, so you are unlikely to forget!


In the meantime, we are working hard to promote our Wednesday market and thanks to so many of you for being willing to help us out - it is really of great help!

Stallholder news:

All Stalls are due to be with us this Saturday, but as usual, check before you travel if you are looking to get something very specific!

At the Pantry, there will be NO ORGANIC MILK FROM BALLYMORE FARM for at least two weeks. Their Pasturiser has developed a problem and has had to be shipped to the UK to be fixed. We will have raw milk from Glebe Brethan available and all other Ballymore products will be here.
We have lots of Kilbeg Dairies products here, including sour cream, mascarpone cheese, quark, all of which would go down really well in warm weather (thinking Mascarpone and fresh Irish Strawberries myself!) We will also have some of our summer salads available - our raw carrot/seed salad and our Mediterranean Roasted Vegetable Salad. Now back in season is the first batch of the Boyne Valley Blue Raw Goats Cheese, as it is so young,  be sure to ask to taste before you buy, as the taste is quite different, much less pungent!
 

We have two wines on special offer this Saturday, both ideal for our good weather! Our white is from Gavi in Italy, from the La Caplana vineyard. This has fresh lemon and zesty citrus fruit flavours, hints of almond and a mineral finish.
Usually priced at €13.95, it is on offer on Saturday for €11.95.

On the red wine side of things, we have chosen a wine which will go really well with robust BBQd meats - Vallmajor from the Terra Alta DO in Catalunya. This wine has bramble fruit flavours, spicy black pepper, vanilla and violet - ideal to match that Jim Ryan steak off the BBQ!!

Usually priced at €11.95, it is on offer on Saturday for €9.95.

Both wines will be available for tasting at the market on Saturday. Lots of other wines available as well, you are more than welcome to browse around and to ask Colm for advice on food and wine matching  - he is pretty damn good at it too!



At the cafe, with the final arrival of summer, we wont have soup! Instead, we will bring you back to a summer holiday in the sun with our  Spanish Chicken & Chorizo Cazuela (i.e. casserole!), and some Spanish Tortilla with salads. We might even do some strawberries & ice-cream to be eaten outside in the sun! We will finally be able to open up the big door in the cafe to let in the light!

LOCAL EVENT NEWS: One of the other businesses here in Dublin Industrial Estate let us know that they will have a great children's booksale on at their premises on the 14th and 15th of June.
