Market newsletter 14th June 2012

Its been a hectic week this week getting organised for the official launch of our Wednesday Food Producers Market. We hope you can make it along to us next Wed (20th) from 12.30 til 1.30, it would mean a lot to us if we had loads of people here at the launch by the Minister for Agriculture (Simon Coveney). Not to mention with the RTE cameras here doing the Surf & Turf filming! So, if you can at all, come along, bring a few friends and enjoy the occasion. We will have all our Saturday stallholders here on next Wednesday too, and everyone will have lots of food to be sampled and enjoyed, so it'll be great fun!

Heres a photo of our revamped Pantry/Wine Stall, which went down well with customers last Saturday. Lots more room to be able to see things properly!

Stallholder news:

Everyone is due to be with us on Saturday, except Puddleduck Clare (Old Tarts xx stall will have a selection of Clares jams/preserves available on Sat).

Lily and Alan (The Mexican Shop) sent me this lovely photo of their tortilla chips, perfect combo for watching soccer matches!

Sticky Fingers (Gluten Free) Bakery will have chocolate muffins on Saturday, lovely treat for the gluten intolerant!

It is definitely summer fare at the Veg Stall - they have local green beans (one of my favourite staple summer vegetables), along with summer fruits. And what better to go with those strawberries & raspberries than lovely organic cream from Mossfield Farm in Offaly (available in the Dairy Wall at the Pantry).

At the Pantry, we have sourced some more new products, including smoked chicken and smoked duck from Carraig na Breac in Leitrim - we will have the smoked chicken on tasting on Saturday. We also have local herbs now available, basil, coriander, dill and flat-leaf parsley, all produced in north Co Dublin.

Wine of the week this week is from France -Olivier Tricon Bourgogne Rouge Normal Price €15.00 Offer Price €12.50.

Beautiful cherry colour with glistening reflections gives this wine a bright aspect. Its nose is jolly and vivid and reveals flowers and red fruit scents. The palate is medium bodied and fresh with a long finish. Serve cool as an appetizer or slightly chilled with Paté. We'll have a bottle open tomorrow for you to try for yourself!

Hot dish of the day at the Cafe is our Deconstructed Shepherds Pie and we will have a new dish (which we tried out at the Wed market yesterday) called Bahn Mi - a very popular Streetfood in Vietnamese cuisine, consisting of griddled chicken, a fresh pickle of carrot & cucumber, topped with a fresh satay sauce, served in a baguette (I had it for lunch yesterday and it was a lovely blend of tastes!
