Welcome to this week's news on a damp & cool April afternoon! Dunno where our fledgling Spring has gone to, as it feels more like winter to me. This week, one of our market customers has written about the market in her online journal (blog) and here it is - we are delighted with it. Watch out for more articles as she plans on writing about each of our stallholders/producers over the coming months.
Despite the weather, we are still lucky enough to have new season Irish tomatoes, Irish cucumbers and Herefordshire asparagus available, so we can dream about better weather while eating lovely veggies this weekend!
Wednesday opening at the market:
Everyone is due to be with us this Saturday and we will have a new stall selling Aloe Vera Products, so do call and say hello to Carmel when you visit on Saturday.
Alicia at our Spanish Tapas Stall will be cooking up paella again this Saturday at the Cafe : buy by the portion to bring home or have at the market.
We are finalising our plans to open on Wednesdays, and our opening date is the 16th May - opening hours will be midday to 7pm. We are still finalising our line-up, so watch this spot for more news! Do you like the look of our new signs - we think they are really nice!
Kate tells me that she will have more of the same produce at her Wild Flour Stall this Saturday. If you would like to order in advance, she can be contacted at
At the Fruit & Veg stall, local (English) asparagus will be available - yay!
At the Pantry, we will have pate back this week, as promised! We will also have fresh supplies of Ballymore Organic Farm milk, sorry it sold out so quickly last week - its organic pasturised milk in glass bottles (which does add to the cost, unfortunately), and we will have a limited quantity of the raw butter, both of which are getting rave reviews from customers! David from Glebe Brethan apologises for the lack of cheese from him last week, however the cows have been told to smarten up their act and we should have fresh supplies for Saturday!
Wine news and offers
Here is one of our wine offers for this week - read what Colm has to say about it:
This is a classic Barbera d'Asti at a great price from the Sulpiano, 2008 vintage. It has tastes of dark spicy red fruit and fresh acidity - matches pasta, pizza and game beautifully - and the price? Well, it is at the astonishingly great value price of €9.99 (usual price is €14.50, so a real bargain, and it does taste delicious!)
Weekend Offer €9.99
Cafe fare - as we reckon Saturday will still be fairly cool, we are still doing a soup - carrot & leek, and our hot dish of the day will be an Asian Fish pie - a mix of fresh fish from Kilmore Quay, a little smoked fish from Ballyconnelly and light Asian spices in a coconut milk sauce. Over the next few weeks we will be back experimenting with salads for the summer, so keep an eye out for those when they come along - but its too cold still for them this weekend!
BTW, in case you are interested in the GIY movement or more environmentally friendly gardening, here is a really interesting local talk http://t.co/YktlJcBp. on the topic of agrohomeopathy...
