Honest2Goodness Market newsletter 3rd March 2011

Dunno why really, but March always feels more like the beginning of Spring to me than February, and certainly the weather this week feels very springlike! There is definitely an air of new beginnings and growth out there, so hopefully this will translate into a renewed sense of optimism and faith in our abilities to rebuild our economy - without losing sight of some of the painful lessons we've had to learn...

Event news:

On Saturday the H2G Bazaar will have its second and final day. As last Saturday was pretty quiet (we think that the election results had lots of people glued to the TV!), there are still lots of bargains to be had...

Stallholder news:

Breanndan, of the GourmetPizza Co wont be with us this Saturday due to a previous commitment, but expects to be back with us on the 12th for more of his great pizzas, made in his wood-burning oven (there was some heat off it last Saturday - and I was on the other side of the counter from it!). Also, Colm from Purchase.ie with his eco-products wont be with us for a couple of weeks.

As we have been getting in new wine deliveries this week, we are delighted to put two of our most popular Italian wines on special offer this Saturday, which arrived in during the week.

Montalto Pinot Grigio
€10 down to €8.50
A rich and characterful PG with loads of tropical fruit, green apple and mineral flavours. Nicely balanced with a creamy texture it matches many dishes including seafood, chicken, Asian cuisine and creamy cheeses.

Nespolino Sangiovese/Merlot
€11.00  down to €9.00
Made by Poderi dal Nespoli (ranked as one of the best producers in Central-East Italy) from 70% Sangiovese & 30% Merlot. The wine shows dark cherry, caramel, chocolate and some savoury notes and is a perfect companion to red meats, charcuterie and hard mature cheeses. Would also work really well with Pascale's dark chocolates!

To celebrate the move away from winter, we have taken delivery of  some Wild Orchard Smoothies, priced at €2.50 each and made freshly in Limerick every week. They are 100% fruit, with no additives, perfect to add to that lunchbox or to stave off the hunger pangs late afternoon!

Also at the Pantry, we have all our cheeses available in tip-top condition, thanks to Elaine, our professional cheesemonger (ask her anything about cheese the next time you visit!), and we're starting our summer salad selection with a roasted red pepper & chorizo salad, and a spelt pasta salad - both of which will be on tasting, and available for sale.

Clare from Puddleduck sent us this lovely recipe that will ring in the changes on Pancake Day - next Tuesday apparently!

With pancake day nearly on us and the seville marmalade season nearly finished i would like to share a recipe for a lovely sauce that will be a change to the old lemons and sugar.
mix 6 fl oz marmalade with 6 fl oz of water, over a low heat stir until smooth. add 2 tablespoons of butter and stir until evenly combined. serve over hot freshly made pancakes, happy pancake day xxxx.

At the cafe, we'll be serving chilli con carne (well, its not quite summer yet you know!) and our soup is set to be carrot & leek. All the rest of our usual fare will be available - crab salad will depend on Cailean being able to bring some fresh crabmeat with him this week.

Hope to see you on Saturday - if the day is warm enough, we might even open up the cafe warehouse door (ok, that may be pushing it a bit this early in the year - I know, I know, dont get carried away just yet Brid!)

You can contact us on 087-6294713 to check anything on Saturday before you travel.
