Honest2Goodness Market Newsletter June 2nd 2011
June already - where is this year disappearing to? I was hoping to have a nice sunny photo to put into the newsletter this week, but so far the sun hasnt made much of an appearance, so it may have to wait! Instead here is a photo of the lovely summer planters that I got from Dominic a couple of weeks ago - as you can see, I still havent worked out exactly where they will go for the summer!

The family wedding in Killary went swimmingly well - apart from the rain that is. There was a lovely civil ceremony, followed by some of the best wedding food I have ever tasted (prepared by Oran of Portfinn Lodge) on board the Killary Cruise Ship, which gave us a lovely experience - despite the rain! If you are ever in the area, it is really worth the trip on the ship - read more about them here.

Conamara after the rain - all mossy and damp, but still lovely!
So, market news for this week!
Events:
Hopefully with the weather making something of a summer appearance, we'll all be moving outdoors soon. So, if you're interested, we still have space on the Summer BBQ Workshop being held next Wednesday evening 8th of June. You can get the details here, or ask us at the market on Saturday; you can of course send us an email to book your place on it.
If you are going to Bloom this weekend, watch out for market produce there, including: Dublin Meath Growers with their Best in Season stand, Pat from Derrycamma Rapeseed Oil, Knockdrinna Cheese, Killowen yogurts, Cooleeney Cheeses, Chez Emily chocolates, Kingfisher Teas. If you spot a product that you think we should be stocking at the market, tell us about it!
Stallholder news:

Cucumbers: we wanted to let you know that the cucumbers for sale at the market this weekend are Irish (At the Dublin-Meath Growers Stall, grown by Jim Carthy in Rush) and also the organic cucumbers at Rosie's stall are Dutch. Just ask for further information when you visit us on Saturday.
At the Cafe - things are scheduled to be back to normal (cook back in kitchen!) for Saturday - dish of the day is due to be Thai Chicken, and we are hoping that the improvement in the weather will mean that we get some crabmeat in from Kilmore to do our open sandwich on spelt bread. We are definitely in positive mode - we even bought some new bistro outdoor tables and chairs to make the most of the summer weather!
Caryna wont be at the market this Saturday so no chocolate brownies available!
GourmetPizza man Breanndan will be back to us with some of his fab pizzas.
At the Pantry, we are expecting the MorFoods delivery this Saturday - apologies from Catherine who didnt make it up to us from Offaly last Saturday. So, hopefully we will have the mango dressing available! Also planning on having salads, spelt bread and granola back on track!

Wines of the week feature a couple of our new, quirky wines from Italy.
The white is a Dogheria Bianco, Poderi dal Nespoli 2010, usually priced at €15.00 down to €12.00
The area of Emilia-Romagna makes more than just Lambrusco! Poderi dal Nespoli are based in Romagna and this is their mid-tier white made with Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc and a little known local grape called Albana. Stone fruit and apricot is balanced by zesty citrus fruit – this is great with fish, white meats and Asian cusine.
The red is Prugnetto Rosso, Poderi dal Nespoli 2009, again usually priced at €15.00 down to €12.00 This is the red partner to Dogheria. A single estate (Cru) wine made from 100% Sangiovese grapes this wine was awarded 2 glasses from Gambero Rosso in 2011 (The definitive guide to Italian wines). Notes of morello cherry, spicy vanilla and some savoury notes make this wine a lovely match with game and pork dishes.
So, hope you get to support us this weekend by visiting to do your shopping! With the scares about food products still happening, it is more and more important that we have local sources of food available, and where the links between producer and consumer are as short as possible.
