We liked this photo so much, we've given it pride of place this week!

Welcome to this week's newsletter - and as usual we have lots of news for you! Firstly, the weather forecast is looking good for Jim Ryan's Open Farm Day, on this Sunday, all details here. I was talking to Jim earlier today, and he is even ordering apple tarts, sponges and pear tarts, so he is taking this really seriously - so we all have to be there to avail of his hospitality! I have volunteered to help man the BBQ, so you can expect lamb burgers and sausages as well... and all for free to market customers!!
Secondly, if you dont want to go that far away, then Santry Community Garden sent us this photo and info about their Open Day also on Sunday:

To celebrate our one year-a-growing, our community garden is holding an open day in the form of a Garden Fete next Sunday, the 27th August from 2-5 pm. It promises to be a great day out for all the family, with bunting, balloons and simple family entertainment.
Activities include garden tours, bouncy castles, tea and cakes, live jazz band, African drummers and much much more...
For more info check out our website http://www.santrycommunitygarden.ie/garden-open-day-2011.html.
Please do bring along any family and friends and remember your picnic blanket!
Stallholder news
Really interesting new stall joining us on Saturday, called Malones. Their produce includes raw beeswax, beeswax candles, organic essential oils - st. johns wort, chamomile, clover, lavender, buddlia, and even iranian carpets! They live locally in Phibsboro, so it is great to be able to keep it local again!

Love the look of these wax candles!
We are very sad to tell you that Dominic & Fionnuala of Gleann Gabhra have decided to stop all retail production of their goats milk and other products, so they wont be with us at the market into the future. We'll miss them, and wish them all the best for the future.
GourmetStreetPizza's special this Saturday is really pushing the experimental button - 'Fort Lauderdale' - Roasted Caulilflower in garlic and olive oil, topped with mozzarella, provolone and breadcrumbs. Of course, you can always stick with the old favourites - mine is pepperoni, mushroom and red onion!

Clare from Puddleduck tells me that she will have marrow, lemon and ginger jam on Saturday. Rosie gave me these lovely homegrown marrows and the simpleness of just four ingredients makes it delicious.
Curry Sauce Company will have their special offer again this week - lots of reductions on their sauce ranges with 'short dates' on them...
As today is National Spud Day, our hot dish of the week on Saturday at the CAFE will be our old favourite - Deconstructed Shepherds Pie, with that lovely potato & parsnip topping (errr, that is if we get in parsnip at the market - think it might be a little bit early in the season for them, but what the heck, we can use all spud if that happens!)

We've been busy restocking at the Pantry this week - lots of Gubbeen produce back in the fridge, including the ever-popular fresh chorizo. Also, cheese fridge is looking pretty full - and thats before we get our Glebe Brethan delivery on Saturday, alongside the Raw Milk (which is getting very popular now!).

Wine specials this week - we've just had a delivery of Rive Haut in from France so we'll have their Rose on special on Saturday: Made from Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat, this is a lovely summery wine with lots of summer berry fruit flavours. Usual price is €10 down to €8.50... On the red wine front, we have one of our Italian wines on special for Saturday:
Nespolino Sangiovese/Merlot
€11.00 down to €9.00 Made by Poderi dal Nespoli (ranked as one of the best producers in Central-East Italy) from 70% Sangiovese & 30% Merlot. The wine shows dark cherry, caramel, chocolate and some savoury notes and is a perfect companion to red meats, charcuterie and hard mature cheeses.
Thats it for this week. Hope to see you on Saturday, and again on Sunday up in Ballinlough at Jim Ryan's Farm!
