Honest2Goodness Market Newsletter Aug 18th 2011

Freshly picked organic salad leaves available at the market this Saturday!

Hello everyone - welcome to this week's newsletter.

Did any of you catch the Liveline programme on markets during the week? And yes, that was me calling in about our market in Glasnevin, talking to Damian....

Work opportunities: At the market, we want to hear from people who would like to work with us on Saturdays. So, if you, or anyone you know, might be interested, drop us an email with 'work opportunities' in the title, and include a short CV. Initially, the plan is to put people on a list, on an 'on-call' basis, and then over time to be able to offer more regular work. Previous experience of working in a food environment is desirable.

Now, onto other things! We reckon you've had enough of all this skiting around Europe and to all four corners of Ireland -  its time for some local events! So, in date order, the following will be happening in the next few weeks, so put them in your calendars now:

28th August - Farm Visit to Jim Ryan's Farm in Ballinlough; find out more here

3rd September - Join us at the Market for the Dublin Lord Mayors visit to us at 11.30; we are chuffed to bits that he wants to visit us!

8th September - Our event in No 10 - Italy Unwrapped - taste 30 of our top Italian wines, and meet the producers, more info here

10th September - Italian Day at the market - all our stallholders (yes, even the Curry Sauce Company!) will have an Italian theme on the day, to welcome our Italian Wine Producers to the Market.

And of course, Phizzfest is on over the weekend of the 9th-12th of September - we are hoping to have lots of the event calendars here at the market for you to pick up and see what is going on...

Stallholder news:

All stallholders are due to be with us this Saturday, with all their fresh produce ready for you to taste and buy!

Specials for Saturday:

Caryna has a special offer - buy two brownies (chocolate fudge or raspberry cheesecake) and enjoy a free cookie!

Meanwhile, as Clare (Puddleduck)  is busy knitting the special tea-cosy in the Dublin colours to welcome the Lord Mayor next month, she somehow has also found time to make fresh batches of everything, as she sold out at the Tullamore Show on Sunday! So, all your favourite jams and relishes will be here on Saturday.

The Spud Man is still getting lovely fresh Wexford raspberries and strawberries for sale on Saturday, so no excuse not to get lots of vitamins and anti-oxidants to fortify you (and they taste delicious as well!)

At the Wine Stall, we have a real bargain in our red wine of the week! This is a Spanish wine from Jumilla called Bodegas Bleda Divus 2006, a big, full-bodied wine with concentrated ripe fruit and spicy chocolatey flavours, earning it 93 points from Robert Parker! It is usually priced at €19, and this Saturday it is available for €12. We will also have this wine available for tasting, so that you can judge for yourself!

Our white wine special this week is our Dogheria Bianco, Poderi dal Nespoli 2010, usually priced at €15.00 down to €12.00. The area of Emilia-Romagna makes more than just Lambrusco! Poderi dal Nespoli are based in Romagna and this is their mid-tier white made with Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc and a little known local grape called Albana. Stone fruit and apricot is balanced by zesty citrus fruit – this is great with fish, white meats and Asian cusine.

Meanwhile, at the Pantry, we will be short of Gubbeen products this weekend, as our delivery wont happen til next week - they are totally sold out of cheese at the moment! We do have some cheese, but not a lot of it and the stocks of smoked sausages and salamis are very low. We have also increased the order of sour-dough baguettes as they seem to be selling out very quickly at the moment.

At the cafe, our hot dish of the day is Moroccan Chicken, based on a Rachel Allen recipe, but with our own twist to the tastes!! All the usual fare - hoping that Johnny Fishmonger will have fresh crab with him for our spelt n crab open sambo!

Regards from all at Honest2Goodness Market.
