Honest2Goodness Market Newsletter April 28th 2011

Welcome to this week's newsletter, and on such a fine late April day, with the prospect of a long weekend ahead of us!

I was telling anyone who would listen to me at the market last week that finally, after 11 years of waiting, the wisteria in the back garden has flowered! The photo shows just how prolifically! Worth waiting for... now if only I knew why - was it the hard winter weather? Anyone know?? Or given the unruly mess of branches - if anyone would like to help me prune it for next year, I would be very grateful!

I just got confirmation that we will have our new fish stall up and running this Saturday, so FISH, GLORIOUS FISH can be back on the dinner tables of our customers! Please, please come along this Saturday to support him - he needs to know that we all love our fish and it'll worth his while to travel up to us from Wexford every Saturday - I am leaving it in your hands!

All other news pales into insignificance but nonetheless, there is lots more news!

Event news:

Following requests from people who know us long enough to remember when we used to run Food & Wine Workshops, we are planning to restart them this summer!

First off the blocks will be our BBQ Workshop featuring lots of recipes and demonstrations of how to do a really successful BBQ, with marinades, salsas, salads, wine & food matching and of course you get to eat it all as well! Here is more information on our first one, scheduled for the 18th of May. Email us if you want to reserve a place at it.

Stallholder news:

Please note that Phoenix Delites wont be at the market this Saturday - due back on the 7th of May. Also GourmetPizza still away on holidays, so no great pizzas for another couple of weeks.

Blue Finch Cakes: Peter sent us in this photo of a recent cake he and Krystyna produced. They are happy to take orders for any event you want to celebrate with a bespoke cake - talk to them at the market on Saturday.

Sara-Janes new chilled display unit looked great at the market last week. She is looking forward to adding to her array of produce now that she can keep things lovely and cold.

Wines of the week this May Bank Holiday weekend are :

Dominio de la Vega, Macabeo 2010
€10.00 down to €8.50

Refreshing and quaffable white from Spain’s Valencia area. Aromas and flavours of pineapple, orange peel & lemon acidity prevail. Great with BBQ food during this fine weather and with the alcohol not too high can be sipped away at without doing too much damage!

Dominio de la Vega, Bobal
€10.00 down to €8.50

Medium bodied red with flavours of strawberry, spicy vanilla, black pepper and a touch of smokiness. Perfect with all sorts of BBQ meats both red and white.

Pantry news: Please check back to see if we managed to get delivery of the raw milk; as this is being written, we arent sure if it'll get to us

Cafe news: THERE WILL BE NO HOT DISH OF THE DAY THIS SATURDAY (I am heading to London mid-morning so wont get the chance to prepare it). We will have soup (carrot & ginger), panini and all the rest of our usual fare...

Finally, just to let you know who won the Easter Egg Raffle in aid of the IMNDA.   €188 raised this year for a very deserving cause.  Winner - Sunniva Corr...

Hope you get the chance to visit the market this week,

Brid & the Honest2Goodness Team
