Honest2Goodness Market Newsletter 24th March 2011

What a great day this is! A bit of real heat in the sun and the promise of some fine settled weather for a few days. We hope you get the chance to get out and about into the sunshine and that you can find time to visit us at the market on Saturday.

Events news:

The market is hosting a Slow Food event on the 16th of April, when part of the cafe will be set aside for a Butter-making demonstration (we are also hoping to have a hands-on option for people to help make the butter, but we have to work out the logistics on that one!). The event is to celebrate Grandmother's Day, and our own Gleann Gabhra stallholders will be doing the demo with their goats milk. We will also have a kiddies corner where children can learn about goats and butter; the event is free, non-Slow Food members are welcome so if you are interested in coming along then email slowfooddublin@gmail.com to reserve a place.

Stallholder news:

As we move into warmer weather, the Pantry is continuing to experiment with healthy, delicious salads for you to sample and buy. These will vary from week to week, depending on seasonality and availability of ingredients. This Saturday, we expect to have more of the tomato/quinoa/roasted fennel salad, aubergine and greek-style yogurt, and a carrot, celeriac and puy lentil salad, all prepared in the market kitchen.

Our wines of the week are priced to help you enjoy the fine weather without breaking the bank (or what is left of it!)

Ch Lieumenant Blanc 2009

€10.00 down to €8.50
A harmonious blend of Sauvignon and Semillon this wine is an example of how under-rated Bordeaux Whites can be. Clean citrus flavours mingle with some honeyed fruit to leave a nice balanced wine that goes well with seafood, white meats and soft and hard cheeses.

Vina Marro, Vendemmia Selecionnada 2008
€13.00 down to €11.00
Vendemmia Selecionnada means simply a selection of grapes from the vintage. This example is made with 100% Tempranillo grapes, has dark fruits, smooth tannins (it was aged in oak for 6 months) and great complexity. Having won many awards around Europe its a bargain wine at €11.00!
Pair with red meats and hard mature cheeses.

We havent yet heard from Cailean if he will be here with his Fish stall this Saturday - we will post any update to the website as soon as we know the sceal

The Curry Sauce Co has Peshwari Naan back in stock which will be available at the market on Saturday. Also, they have some "Dhaal Spicy Lentil Soup Mix" as a trial product complement - €4.50 per pack, serves 2, which sounds really interesting!

Meanwhile, Sheila from Dublin Meath Growers tells me that they will have some new season rhubarb at the market on Saturday, but you'll have to be early to get any, as it is still in short supply.

Over at the Gleann Gabhra stall, Fionnuala is still adding to their great goat's milk product line with a Caramel sauce, great with some vanilla ice-cream, or as the basis for a banoffi pie. Just shows that goat's milk is a really versatile product.

Pascale of Phoenix Delites is taking a couple of weeks off, as so many people have given up chocolate for Lent that her stall is very quiet. Dont worry, she'll be back in time for the Easter Eggs!
